Is your Petrol Tank ready for winter?
Warning: IF YOU LEAVE PETROL IN YOUR TANK OVER WINTER, WATER WILL CAUSE CORROSION
This is due to modern petrol containing Ethanol which is 'hygroscopic'. This means that it absorbs water which can result in corrosion of your petrol tank if left dormant over the winter months. With a proposed ethanol increase to 10%, now would be a great time to guard against corrosion to your petrol tank.
If your tank is in reasonable condition, just cleaning out and sealing with Hirsch Gas Tank Sealer would be the answer.
Part number: 97132 at £27.10 (excl. VAT)
If your tank is in poorer condition, the complete kit may be your best option. This comes with
- Hirsch Gas Tank Sealer
- Cleaning solution (to ensure you aren't trying to seal against sludge etc. from old fuel.
- Etching solution to etch and prepare the surface. This is also a rust remover.
- A sealing putty for any small leaks.
Part number: 97133 at £53.70 (excl. VAT)
The sealant is absolutely needed if you have a fibreglass fuel tank as ethanol makes short work of destroying the resin and scrapping your tank.
Note: this cannot be used if a two stroke fuel/ oil mix has been used in a fibreglass tank
