Due to different timing covers, gaskets and tolerances the timing gears can be noisy. These shims are available for the cams, idler pinions and distributor pinion to take up end float on the shafts. They are sold individually so make sure you order enough and if required more than one can be fitted per pinion.
Note: DISTRIBUTOR SHIMS — The early distributors (which use bushes on the shaft instead of bearings) can suffer from excessive end float allowing the points plate and condenser to be damaged. These shims can be fitted between the distributor and the drive pinion to prevent this. They are 0.3mm (0.012”) thick, more than one can be fitted if required.
